If you write a blog, why are you hiding?

by Jeremy Vaught on November 3, 2008

My original title was, “If you write a blog, make yourself contactable,” but I’m pretty certain that contactable isn’t a real word.  However, I think you get the point.  Why don’t you allow yourself to be contacted?

There are many times I want to contact a blogger, and their contact information is non-existant.  It’s like they were hatched in a blogging lab, and exist there without phone, email, or any other form of communication us traditional humans that were raised in society use to communicate.  They only want to push their information to us, through their blog, twitter and maybe a newsletter.

I say STOP IT!  You have an about page.  Don’t merely tell us more about yourself, tell us about how to find you.  If you are not interested in conversations, than you should just write a magazine article.  This is the new world.  It’s about conversations and interaction.  Stop hiding.  Robert Scoble, one of the most popular bloggers on the planet has had his phone number on his front page since as long as I’ve been looking at his blog.  Are you bigger than Scoble?  I’m not sayin you need your phone number on your blog.  I don’t, but I used to, and I should probably do it again.  Chris Brogan has his email address on his front page, are you bigger than Chris Brogan?  Even Jason Calacanis, who probably doesn’t want to hear from you unless you are an A list blogger, at least puts his assistant’s email address and does put his phone numbers on his blog.

Point is.  You are creating conversations, or at least you should be wanting to.  Then converse.  At least give up your email address.

Strike your fancy? Great! Please leave a comment below and/or please follow along by subscribing to the RSS feed. You can also follow along through email.

Thanks for stopping by!

Your point is valid and needed for bloggers of all types. My own blog has been lacking an about page for far too long. Thank you for accosting me.

I'm for it.

I know A LOT of real estate bloggers who don't put up their email address anywhere on their site. And in some cases, their phone number too. You know why? They fear the spam phone calls. But in my opinion, those come with the territory. You have to take 'em and deal with it!

If you don't make your contact info. visible, you're “shooting yourself in the foot” and missing out on some opportunities (at least in my humble opinion).

I'm curious what spam phone calls they get? Is it that much worse in the real estate business. I post my phone number and have never had spam from it (that I know of)

But I obviously agree. Make yourself reachable. That's the point of all this right? :)
