RSS on the brain, and RSS email

by Jeremy Vaught

I’ve been thinking about RSS and it’s uses…

One thing I’ve been thinking about for a couple of years now is RSS email. Clearly I haven’t thought about it enough to figure it all out, but here is the basic outline:
* It is a pull, not a push technology like email
* Instead of me sending you an email, you have to be subscribed to a special rss feed I have that is intended only for you… or, for a group which you are a part of.

The advantage to this is no spam. I only get what is intended for me. Clearly there has to be a system where I can learn about you in order to subscribe to your feed for me. A process that is a vetting for people I don’t want to get email from. And not many people are interested in getting personal messages in the feed aggregator, but I could be wrong about that. I’ve never tried it, it just doesn’t seem right. So in order to get a larger appeal, it needs to look a lot like tradition email.

I so want to create this, but no time. And the simplicity of it makes me think there is possibly some huge errors in what I’m thinking of trying to do. But maybe it is one of those things that when someone does it, the rest of us smack ourselves on the forehead and wish we had thought of it. In fact, I have not ever blogged about this because I don’t want someone to steal my idea. But I finally given in and figure, well, being more open about it probably the way to go. And now that I have written this, I should probably do some more checking to see if this already exists.

Maybe one day you can send me an RSS Email. Look at me, send, ha! We are going to needs a whole new set of words for this.

Dude/Dudette! Thanks for coming back, you make my day! :D Contact me at jeremy@jeremyvaught.com and let me know what you are up to.

Cheers!
