Clever marketing….
Basically it goes like this. I received an email a while ago stating that one of my photos from Flickr was in consideration to be used in an online travel guide website called schmap.com.
After a short time, I received a follow up email. Just in time too because I was biting my fingernails with anticipation to have my photo with full credit displayed prominently on their website. :-) Amazing beyond amazing, they chose my digital photo to be included on their site. They kindly ask that I display a widget on my site back to their site.
Here is said widget:
Now if you actually click on their site, you will indeed find a picture I took with my name below it, but it is hard to find because they have roughly a zillion other pictures, none larger then a coin (at least on my 1920×1200 17″ laptop).
Now betting that a small percentage of folks will indeed proudly display this widget on their sidebar, this is a pretty slick maneuver. How difficult is it to search Flickr and send a copy and pasted message to each owner with the correctly tagged pics… not very.
So there is your widget Emma Williams from Schmap Guides. And just for kicks, here is the letter in it’s entirety.
