In a post from the New York Times today, I learned that Paul McCartney gets it. I hear more and more musicians doing it, and before long more and more will continue. I’m talking about giving up on the antiquated music business.
So in a nutshell, here is what Paul has done. So he has not entirely given up on the music industry, he is making huge progress. He has signed up with Starbucks which has its own music distribution company, and have proven to actually sell large amounts of music. The other thing he is doing is releasing his video on You Tube.
If you are looking for more information on a band that gets it as far as it can be got, check out the Bare Naked Ladies. A quick look over their site reveals Revver and YouTube videos including the awesome ‘Bathroom series’ which you can watch on the website, on YouTube, or get on your mobile phone. And I’m not even talking about their podcast or putting out a 29 song album on a thumb drive and other brilliant ways to distribute music. Ok, you caught me, I’m a fan. I’ve been a fan of the Chickity China, the Chinese Chicken for a long time now, and to see them lead the way in how they connect with fans and distribute music, makes me doubly a fan.
Also, since we on are this subject, if this is a topic you enjoy, I strongly suggest to go to Griddlecakes Radio and listen to this spoof on the RIAA.
